More tweaks then off we go.
Maybe Today....
Well we didn't sail yesterday but in hindsight perhaps we could have. It would have been another late one though. Instead we went over to the beach and did some wind shear measurements with the Tacktick wind gear. I have taken the instruments off the deck and have mounted them on a pole where the air rudder would normally go. The data we have recieved to date has not been very accurate as we feel that the wind so low to the water does not accurately represent what the actual wing is feeling. The new position has the tacktick gear 1.6 meters higher up.
Now we are all ready. From the wind shear readings we took yesterday (which ranged from 60 cm high up to 5 meters above the water) we are now going to induce more twist into the wing by adjusting the trailing edge flap angle. We are currently set at 3 degrees of twist and will head more around to 10 degrees from top to bottom.
Another adjustment we have made is to swing the beam 50cm further forward so as to create more 'lee helm'. I really want the boat to be trying to turn away from the shore. It is like flying an aircraft very close to the ground at speed. If something goes wrong you want it to have the tendency to go up to safety.... not down.
The sun has just popped out and the sunscreen is being applied.
We will head across to 'speed spot' in an hour, sit and wait.
Cheers, Paul.
p.s. I hope to get the onboard camera back in action today after the last ones demise.
