The more you look... the more you find!!!
We have been burning the midnight oil here, We all worked until very late last night fitting the new leading edge to the beam. Whilst prepping the beam we found another major split internally. On one hand I am pissed off but on the other I'm glad that I found it now. It has set us back another day.
The leading edge went on and was cured today by natures oven.
I hung the rudder and skeg brackets today. Last night I refabricated lighter and stronger brackets for both. they have to be strong as a failure in either will lead to... well, bigger failures I guess.
As mentioned, the new Compotech struts are here and the pieces are all being fitted on to them ready for action.
My enthusiasm for getting on the water is growing every day.
This evening I pulled on the 'white suit' for grinding and took to the beam to cut out the newly discovered problem areas. Repairs are already in place and curing overnight.
We will get started early in the morning in order to make the most of the warm and calm weather. We still have lot to do.
The beam has been renamed 'frankenbeam'. We have probably added around 2 kg. I have already lost that much myself. I am not going to get paranoid about weight as the boat started off light and at 50 knots, a couple of kilos are barely noticeable.
I'm pretty sure that the beam will be super strong. we will do some non-destructive testing first of course.
Cheers, Paul.
